Transition Day for Students enrolled with WHS
Transition Testing Day
We will be conducting a pre-entry transition testing and familiarisation day for your students enrolled with Whanganui High School for 2026, on Friday 14th November 2025. The testing involves e-asTTLe tests for English and Mathematics and written tests for both of these subjects. All tests are approximately 30 minutes long and are used, in conjunction with data and reports from contributing schools, to help with class placements. All students should come prepared with pens, pencils and ruler along with a water bottle and lunch, and a personal reading book. Note – calculators are not required for this testing.
There will be an opportunity for the Year 8 students to ask some questions of staff and current students as they look around some of the facilities here. We hope this visit will help students feel more at ease about the move to secondary school, as well as aiding us in their transition.
We have approximately 23 feeder schools and I understand that it may not be possible for all to attend this day (particularly students currently in other cities or countries!). Please let me know if this is the case and we will endeavour to make alternative arrangements.
In regards to the plans for the day, I would appreciate your help with the logistics. I recognise that the transport arrangements for the visit will need to be discussed at your school, and if you or your parents can assist with this, that would be appreciated.
The plans for the day are as follows:
• Students from your school need to be at WHS by 9.30am and the testing should be completed by 1.00pm. This allows ample time to return to schools for buses and parental pick up. The venue is in the School Hall.
